Step 1) Plan the Audio Biography You complete a guided survey of the themes and events in your life (or that of the biography subject) to help determine what you want to focus on most in the story, who you want interviewed for the biography, and which materials, such as photos or home movies, you want included in the final product. Then, working with a Client Services Manager, you examine the various production options available for a project and create a Project Overview for your biography. Step 2) Conduct Interviews The interviews for an audio biography are planned and conducted in much the same way as those for a biographic book. You complete a Biography Planning Guide and then discuss who will be interviewed, which themes and subjects are most important and create a Project Outline with a Client Services Manager. A professional interviewer, or oral historian, uses this outline to prompt an informative, insightful dialogue with the interview subject or subjects that gives the listener a clear image of the person speaking and the events they are describing. Step 3) Transcribe the Recordings If you wish to have a written version of the text, your Client Services Manager can send the recordings to a transcriptionist so that a transcript of the interviews is created. Step 4) Design the Packaging An audio biography can be stored on a disc, imprinted with your favorite photo. The disc can be packaged in a simple jewel case, a decorated box or set in a book-like “library” piece. There are dozens of packaging options, and your Client Services Manager helps clarify your preferences among the options. In some cases, the packaging may require some graphic design or art work. This is also arranged by the Client Services Manager. Step 5) Reproduce the Audio History When, you’ve chosen the packaging for your biography, your Client Services Manager sends it to an audio duplication lab and copies are made. The recordings are then packaged and delivered. |
