| Your options for an audio biography (also called an “oral history”) are simpler than for the other media. An audio biography consists of a professional biographer or oral historian expertly interviewing one or more biography subjects, drawing out the stories you wish to preserve. The project might also include editing of the recordings or a written transcript of the interviews. What can be done in the format of an audio biography? Some examples… A family commissioned eight hours of interview time, to be completed over six weeks, for their 90 year old grandfather. They wanted to preserve his experiences as a child in Texas, a soldier in France, and his years working for an oil company and raising his family. Their plan is to add recordings from other family members as they become parents and create a book from the recordings by the time their own children approach adulthood. A new mother, aged thirty-two, commissioned a one hour interview describing the events and feelings she experienced while having her first child, from finding out she was pregnant and telling her husband to the child being born at the hospital. Preserving these memories while they were fresh in her mind gives her an exciting way to share them with her child in the future.
